Piles
With less than 48 hours until my departure I have begun the pile making phase of the packing process. I am a big fan of the pile movement and anyone whose ever lived with or near me knows I am a pro piler. I still have some things to do tomorrow such as:
go to the bank and get cash (hopefully there will be some money for this purpose in my account)
buy a few more key items (Immodium, bug spray, sunscreen etc)
decide which bag will hold my stuff plus whatever I bring back (read: adorable small children)
hopefully squeeze in some friend time (Jason Carpp where are you!?)
and cram stuff into bags late at night tomorrow in order to wake around 4:30am to be at the airport by 5:30.
I am extremely excited and a little anxious. I think my anxiety is based on not being certain when communication with loved ones will be possible, but I suppose it will be a good experience in independence or something...
Today my mom told me a little about the women's prison in Berlin. The most I remember about it from 4 years ago was that there was an earthquake during our visit and the inmates we were talking to were very experienced in the drill and helped us with it. The issue of women in prisons sounds extremely interesting and apparently there is a women's prison near my home in Iowa (do I smell honors??) So hopefully I can manage to spend some time with the women at the prison this summer and maybe even secure some funding (!?) to return for a few weeks over winter break to follow up and do some real hardcore research. We shall see.
Well I am off to see Star Wars Episode III this evening with the lovely Emily Hubbard.
Stay tuned for tomorrow's update, hopefully I have some profound insight about my last day in the states.
Peace
